DRIVERS heading into Blackpool faced traffic chaos this morning after a five-vehicle accident brought motorway traffic to a standstill.

The crash - which is not thought to be serious - happened close to junction 1 of the M55 at the Broughton Interchange with junction 32 of the M6, at Preston, shortly before 7.30am.

A Lancashire Police spokesman confirmed two lanes of the M55 motorway were closed at 8am while Highways Agency staff removed vehicles from the scene.

The crash is not described as serious and those involved are said to be “walking wounded”.

Lancashire Police have confirmed the road is now clear.
