Bosses at Stringers department store are inviting customers to get behind the fund-raising drive with a special collection over Easter – and will match all donations made with a donation of their own.

Collections will be held at both the main Stringers store in the centre of town and the Homeware store alongside Booths supermarket at Haven Road.

Stringers are already among the local businesses which have backed the appeal to provide a kick start to the £5.25m project planned for Lowther in time for the venue’s centenary in 2021.

Saturday’s Easter event at Stringers will be particularly aimed at families and will comprise an Easter hunt, treats competitions and face painting by Issypink between noon and 4pm, while there will also be the chance to win a family ticket the How The Koala Learnt to Hug family show at Lowther on May 1.

Gemma Rowlings, marketing manager at Stringers, said: “We believe passionately in our community and Lowther Pavilion is a vital part of what makes Lytham so special, so we are delighted to support the Love Lowther appeal.

“Every donation we receive towards the appeal over the Easter weekend will be matched by Stringers and bring the exciting development plans a step nearer.”

Meanwhile, Lowther Pavilion general manager Roger McCann has put together a quiz to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the birth of William Shakespeare – and raise cash for the Love Lowther campaign at the same time.

The quiz will be at Lowther on Monday, April 25 and tickets cost £5. Roger said: “Don’t worry if you tend towards the ignorance rather than the knowledge – this will be an entertaining evening, the bar will be open and there should be more laughter than head scratching. Put together a team and join in the fun.

Love Lowther, which has raised more than £300,000 so far, is already a first-time beneficiary of the St George’s Day Festival set to take place in Lytham from April 20 to 24 and Lowther Trust chairman Tim Lince said: “The St George’s Day Festival is an event which is supported by all the community and we were honoured to be asked to become one of its supported charities.

“It gives us the opportunity to work with like-minded individuals and companies, proving the Trust’s commitment to the wider community. The money raised from the festival will be vital.”

The festival will start with the official raising of the flag on April 20.
