Always putting family first she shunned the travel required to fulfil a dream of national stardom and instead pursued her career in Clubland at the height of its popularity in Blackpool, often having to travel by bus to venues, while Wilf looked after the family.

Wilf died in 2003.

A family spokesman said: “She rose through the ranks in Northern clubs, appearing with well knownstars as they made their own way up the ladder of success.
