Litter crackdown set for borough of Wyre

The authority has highlighted its priority campaigns for the year, which also included tackling dog fouling and cigarette litter.

“A project officer is to be appointed to identify and work with pilot local neighbourhoods to improve the area with the support of local councillors and residents,” a report set to go before the overview and scrutiny committee on Monday said.

“To support the delivery of the programme, ongoing enforcement action will be required and officers are currently exploring proposals for increased enforcement activity.”

The council also plans to work with schools and community groups to ‘discuss local environmental concerns’, tasking them with designing posters for hot spots – ‘in effect using pester power and the power of young people to spread the message to their grown-ups.’

Street Scene manager Ruth Hunter said: “We need [councillors] to agree how they can support these initiatives, increase awareness and help change behaviours of their constituents to a ‘can do’ attitude, with a feeling of pride for where they live and desire to take control and make a difference to where they live.”
