Lisa Tanner-Marshall is hoping her big fund-raising event on Sunday will nail it, for a cause close to her heart.
Lisa, who owns ExceptioNail Nails and Beauty salon, on Waterloo Road, South Shore, is holding a special day, entitled Nail Cancer, in memory of a friend’s dad.
All the money raised from the day, which will include cakes and coffee, bingo, face-painting, sponsored waxes, raffles and gifts for sale, will got to Cancer Research UK.
Lisa, 22, said: “Recently, my childhood friend Basia Sooky, lost her dad, Abdool Wahed Sooky, to cancer. He was diagnosed about a year ago.
“Basia and I have known each other since we were about six years old, so we really grew up together.
“After watching the family suffer the pain of losing a loving husband, a role model and loving father, I wanted to help. Abdool suffered a type of cancer called colangiogardnoma, which is bile duct cancer, inside the liver.
“It’s not a particularly well-known form of cancer. So I want the event on Sunday to be about raising awareness, as well as raising money, and paying tribute to Abdool.
“I hope to raise enough money for research to be carried out into this particular type of cancer.
“We’ve got some great prizes for the raffle, people have been very generous.
“Everyone is invited to the event, all are welcome to come along.
“If people can’t make it, there is also a donate in memory webpage, where people can show their support.
“Cancer Research is a cause close to many people’s hearts – we all know someone who has been affected by cancer, or have experienced the loss of a loved one due to this illness.
“We really hope to make this a nice tribute and raise as much money as possible.”
The event will take place at the salon, between 10am and 5pm on Sunday.
