A special Christmas lights switch-on will take place on Sunday, at Marsh Mill, in Thornton.

The event is being held in memory of Violet Lancaster, from Thornton, who last year sadly died, aged just six, after suffering from respiratory infections.

Her mum Julie Woodhead and sister Shannon, 16, will be guests of honour at the event, and will press the button to switch on the lights at 5.30pm.

There will be entertainment throughout the afternoon, starting at 3pm, with Disco Inferno, Anchorsholme Primary School choir, Carleton Community Band and Chorus and local schoolgirl Chloe-Ann Foster.

There will be stalls, selling all manner of Christmas gifts.

Money raised will go to the Violet’s Light appeal to help poorly children, visit
