Lifeboat called to kite surfer 'in difficulty'

A lifeboat was launched to reports of a kite surfer "in difficulty" in Blackpool, says the Coastguard.

The Coastguard was alerted to the incident at around 3.40pm near Squires Gate on Sunday, April 23 by a member of the public.

Beach patrols are believed to have helped the kite surfer to safety before the boat arrived.

A spokesman for the coastguard said: "Our RNLI volunteers were called out when a kite surfer got into difficulty.

"The Atlantic 85 lifeboat headed straight to the scene where the kite surfer was being helped to safety by Beach Patrol.

"The lifeboat stood by until the kite surfer was confirmed safe and no further assistance was required."

Nobody is believed to have been injured in the incident.
