The miniature Big Top took centre stage in the clown fish display for World Circus Day on Saturday, allowing the children’s favourite, synonymous with the classic Disney animation movie, ‘Finding Nemo’, to swim around the novel feature.

“We felt this was an appropriate way of tipping our top hat to Blackpool’s illustrious circus heritage,” said Matthew Titherington, general manager at SEA LIFE Blackpool.

“We’re just a short unicycle ride along the Golden Mile from the distinguished Tower Circus and wanted to join in the fun of World Circus Day.”

Clown fish, which live in coral reefs off the coasts of Australia and southeast Asia, are named after their bright orange colouring, with three distinctive white bands outlined in black along their head and body.

Scott Blacker, head aquarist at Sealife Blackpool, said: “They are very popular, especially among younger visitors who recognise them from ‘Finding Nemo’ and other movies.”

They grow to around three to four inches long and have round fins and tails. Clown fish can also come in other colours, such as pink, red, yellow, black, brown and stripey.
