A-LEVEL RESULTS: Blackpool Sixth pupils exceed their own expectations
Results day saw the college maintain its overall pass rate of 99% and significant numbers of their students are still receiving the highest possible grades in their qualifications.
In A level subjects half of students’ results were the highest grades of A*, A or B and in BTEC 88% of students received distinction stars.

Hide AdThe college said these results are particularly good due to them being “against a backdrop of curriculum reforms and more challenging qualifications.”
Many students had outstanding performances on the day.
Declan Molloy came away with three A* grades and will study music at the University of Oxford and Ocean Bach will study physics at the University of Manchester after he achieved four A*.
Supriya Biju will study chemical engineering at the University of Birmingham after scooping an A* and two A’s and Georgia Randles will be heading to the Manchester Fashion Institute at Manchester Metropolitan to study fashion design, technology and women’s wear after gaining a double Distinction*.
18-year-old Declan from Great Eccleston said: “I am absolutely looking forward to going to Oxford, it’s unbelievable.

Hide Ad“I needed the three A* to guarantee a place so I breathed a big sigh of relief when I opened the envelope and I can’t wait for what is to come.”
Ocean, 18, from Bispham added: “I’ve felt physically sick for the last two days so it feels so good to see my results.
“The college has been really good to me and the support and extended help I have received has been fantastic.”
Supriya, 18, from Blackpool said the course has been really hard but she has managed to overcome the struggle and get through it.

Hide AdShe added: “I really didn’t expect the results that I have achieved so I have far exceeded my own expectations.”
18-year-old Georgia, from St Annes said: “It was a big surprise for me and I can’t wait to start at university.”
Headteacher Jill Gray, said the results have made it another great year for the Blackpool Old Road college and she couldn’t be any prouder for her students.
She added: “We are thrilled with this fabulous set of results which reflects the dedication and hard work of our students and staff.
“Such positive results mean that our students are now able to progress to their chosen next step with an excellent foundation for future success.
“We are extremely proud of all their achievements.”
