THE leader of Fylde Council was finally named – after it was revealed he had not been formally elected for close to two years.
Following an administrative error on May 23, 2011, it was revealed Coun David Eaves had not been formally chosen as council leader.
The item of business to elect the leader was missed off the agenda, but councillors voted to formally elect Coun Eaves at a full council meeting on Monday night.
Freckleton Coun Trevor Fiddler said the error was a mistake but added it had been taken out of context, adding: “This really is a non-story and there is no need to protract it further.”
But several councillors expressed concern at the legal implications of the non-election. Fylde council chief executive Allan Oldfield said legal advice was being sought.
He added: “No-one knew it had been omitted. We are looking into why it was missed. We employ human beings. With Government cuts we have fewer and fewer officers taking on more and more work.”
