The fire service got the first call at 10.45am this morning to say a fire had broke out on the bottom floor of the two storey building. After sending three units initially a call came back just after 11am that more would be needed as well as a cherry picker type vehicle to allow jets of water to be sprayed onto the roof, said a spokesman for Lancashire Fire Service. The spokesman also said the fire service has no reason to believe anyone is still in the building and no-one has been hurt.

Neighbouring buildings have been asked to evacuate by police as the fire has threatened to spread. Patel, from Frenchwood, was at the scene and said: “It’s a really big fire and it’s getting bigger.”

Police have also cordoned off Church Street with diversions now in place around most of the town centre.

The fire service have still not determined the cause of the fire.
