A Fleetwood pub which closed several weeks ago is to re-open as a real ale establishment with food.

The Royal Oak pub on Lord Street, known affectionately as Dead’Uns, has been taken over by the Fleetwood Pub Company which has already transformed the award-winning Strawberry Gardens on Poulton Road.

It is hoped the pub, which had a sale price of £200,000, will be open in time for Tram Sunday on July 21.

David Shaw, managing director of the Fleetwood Pub Company, said: “It will be run on similar lines to the Strawberry Gardens, having the same range of beers and lagers. It may not be possible to have all the work completed by Tram Sunday, in which case we may have to shut part of the pub again to complete the work.

“We are hoping to have food available by August but this may be delayed depending on the amount of work required in renovating the kitchens.”

Plans have also been submitted to Wyre Council build a brewery at the Strawberry Gardens site, which is expected to be built and operational by January 2014.

The pub was recently named the Blackpool Fylde & Wyre CAMRA pub of the Year 2013, has expanded its already extensive range of real ales, craft lagers and continental beers.
