Sam, a former Baines School pupil, is second in command of six or more soldiers. He said: “I’ve been to the Falklands, Germany, Cyprus and loads of training areas all over the UK.

“While in the Army I’ve also done plenty of adventure training, boxing and football.

“It’ll make me feel proud to go back home and parade there.”

More than 100 personnel will parade through Blackpool on Wednesday, exercising the Regiment’s freedom of the town.

It is the third of four parades the battalion; the other three are Lancaster, Appleby and Chorley.
