Lancashire Police praise vital work of a police dog

The 41-year-old was caught following an attempted break in at Mr Cheaps pawnbrokers in Central Drive on February 24.

He was spotted crawling from under a security gate at the front of the property with a Lancashire Police dog handler called in to assist with the hunt.

A police spokesman said: “Lancon Zeus and his handler were recently on patrol in the Blackpool area, when they observed a person crawling out from under a security gate at the front of a shop premises.

“After speaking to the man a crowbar was spotted on the floor, the male then ran off from the officer. Zeus was deployed to detain the male, who ran round a corner.

“On turning the corner Zeus began to indicate at a garden wall, however it was not possible to send Zeus in as the garden was full of rabbits.

“Officers checked the garden and the offender was arrested, for attempted burglary. The case went to court and the offender pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison.”
