Managing director of the Navigation Way firm, Lee Petts, said it had been a rollercoaster ride.

He said: “We’ve come a long way, from our humble beginnings in a spare bedroom to the respected business we are today. Not only have we changed considerably in the last fourteen years, we’ve also survived the worst economic depression in living memory – something that is testament to the effort and belief of the people that have worked at Remsol over the years, and the countless businesses that have supported us.”

Remsol started out to provide business customers with a truly independent, outsourced managed waste service.

By placing significant emphasis on process improvement and waste minimisation to drive long-term value, rather than a short-term focus on reducing unit rate costs, it soon established a reputation for helping business cut waste, recycle more and save money, winning a string of high value contracts in the chemicals and pharmaceuticals sectors in particular.

More recently, Remsol moved away from the provision of hands-on waste management services to instead focus on its range of growth-focused sustainability, CSR and environmental consultancy services, appointing 40-year business veteran John Kersey as non-executive chairman to assist in making the transition.

“It’s been a real rollercoaster ride, but one I wouldn’t change,” said Lee, who is also the Chairman of the Institute of Directors in Lancashire. “Running any business comes with its challenges, but it’s also hugely rewarding too. I enjoy watching colleagues grow and develop new skills, and still get excited about opportunities to help businesses achieve their environmental, social and governance aspirations whilst boosting profits and growth.”
