A teenager was threatened by a man with a knife in an attempted robbery.

Police are today appealing for information following the incident, which happened at around 12.15pm on Thursday.

The 17-year-old victim was by the pond on Ashfield Road, which runs between Kincraig Road and Briarfield Road.

He was approached by a man who demanded that he hand over the contents of his pockets.

When the teenager refused, the man threatened him with a knife. The victim was able to push the man to the ground and run away.

The would-be robber is described as white, around 6ft tall, of heavy build, thought to be in his late 30s or early 40s.

He had short, light brown hair with darker facial stubble. He was wearing a black waist-length waterproof coat and light blue jeans.

Det Con Andy Gilmour, of Blakcpool CID, said: “This was a frightening ordeal for the victim, and I am keen to speak to anyone that may have seen a man fitting the description in the area at the time.”

Contact police on 101, quoting log number 1040.
