Officers have only now released details of the incident, which happened on December 13, after efforts so far to identify the man have failed.

Now they have issued an image of a man they want to speak to as part of the investigation and are appealing for help to track him down.

PC Hannah Ogilvie, of Blackpool Police, said: “Around 10.30am on December 13, a man entered the Asda store on Cherry Tree Road and took two turkey crowns and two legs of lamb, placing the items in a bag. The man then walked out of the store without paying for the items and was stopped by security staff in the foyer of the store.

“The male then pulled what appeared to be a Stanley knife blade out of his pocket and waved it at staff, before running from the store with the stolen items.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
