A group of Kirkham women have been getting their kit off for a cause really close to their hearts.

The local ladies came together to create a modern take on the original Calendar Girls, posing for photos for a nude calendar to raise funds for two-year-old Jorgie Rae who is being treated for neuroblastoma. Jorgie, from Kirkham, is being treated at Manchester Children’s Hospital but needs further life-saving treatment in America.

The calendar was the brainchild of photographer Jess Isherwood, who shot all the pictures for the calendar.

She said: “I must say the ladies were initially very nervous at the thought of being photographed naked, but couldn’t refuse to help such a worthwhile cause.

“Jorgie is a local little girl and we just want to make sure she receives the best treatment she can possibly have. We hope this calendar will raise awareness of Jorgie and her condition and help us raise the money needed to help Jorgie and her family.

“We have relied heavily on local support. Local businesses have also been very supportive.”

Carole McCabe, Jorgie’s grandma, features in the calendar and said: “My initial reaction to taking my clothes off for a photographer was utter horror. However how could I refuse when it is all in aid of such a good cause? Jorge Rae’s life potentially lies in the hands of raising these funds to get her to the USA for treatment.

“As it was, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was so empowering to pose for the photos with a group of such amazing women.”

Local business stepped up to help with the calendar’s production. Pete Marquis Contractors provided backdrops – lending construction equipment including a combine harvester, a skip, and tractors, SweetPea Floristry donated flowers and Pink Tree Parties donated balloons. Pete Marquis Contractors also put half of the printing costs forward and local businesses including Lee Cartmell Services Ltd, Acer Contracts, Fishers Ltd and Berry’s Animal Feeds sponsored each page to raise the remaining printing costs.
