Keeping Fylde’s jewels in historic fine fettle

Fylde councillors started work early last year on the built heritage strategy, which aims to conserve and improve the area’s architectural inheritance.

The resulting 60 page document is now open to consultation with members of the public and local heritage-related groups.

Public comments will be considered and any possible changes will be made before the document becomes an official council strategy, expected to be sometime this spring.

Paul Drinnan, Fylde Council’s regeneration manager, said: “Fylde’s heritage is unique as it consists of historic market towns and villages and also the classic seaside towns of Lytham and St Annes. Areas do not remain appealing all by themselves - it takes work and an agreed approach.

“None of this means that the area must stand still – places inevitably change but must keep their intrinsic appeal to residents and visitors.

“We are asking civic societies and heritage groups for their views but we also want members of the public to have their say.

“Residents are invariably proud of Fylde and we hope this strategy will keep that pride in the years to come.”
