It’s a busy few weeks for Thornton student Katie Brady.
The 16-year-old is preparing for the finals of the Miss Junior Lancashire competition on October 29 – organising fundraising events and getting her outfits ready.
Katie reached the finals of last year’s Junior Miss Preston and got the beauty pageant bug.
She will be appearing as Elsa, a character in the Disney film Frozen in full princess costume on October 7, at Freeport Fleetwood, to collect for the competition’s chosen charity, Variety – the Children’s Charity.
She is also planning another collection as a character in the centre of Blackpool and Cleveleys in the next few weeks.
Katie has already held a fundraising family day at the Highfield pub, in South Shore.
The former Millfield pupil, who is studying health and social care at college, said: “I really enjoy raising money for charity.
“Last time I raised around £400-£500 for the charity, so I would like to beat that.
“It’s such a good cause, helping children. I have nieces and nephews and I would like to think if they ever needed help, they would be able to get that help.
“Taking part in the Junior Miss Preston competition was something I really enjoyed.
“It had been a bit of a difficult time and I wanted something to build my confidence back up. It really did boost my confidence.
“I made some really good friends. Everyone is there for the same reasons and is really supportive, we get on really well.”
Katie is currently auctioning off a signed Blackpool FC shirt on Facebook, and is working on finding a venue for charity auction – with local businesses in the area donating prizes.
She has got her evening wear organised for that round and is also working on ideas for her eco-outfit.
Katie said: “I’m so excited for the final now. I just really enjoy taking part.”
