A MYSTERY winner is today celebrating after picking up a huge Lotto prize.

The anonymous ticket holder claimed the £174,762 more than a month after the original draw took place on July 7.

Organisers sent out an appeal to track down the lucky winner who was sitting on the ticket and unaware they had won the life-changing sum of money.

While speculation mounts about the identity of the fortune’s recipient, newsagents across Wyre say it is good news for the borough.

Sarah Raynor, manager of WH Smiths in the Teanlowe Centre, Poulton, said: “I’ve never heard of such a big amount of money being won in Wyre.

“I’ve known someone win £40,000 on a scratch card last year, but it’s good news to see that amount of money being claimed.”

Stephen King, manager of Bourne Newsagents, on Fleetwood Road North, Cleveleys, added: “I wouldn’t be surprised if the winner came from here because we’ve been told we are a lucky shop and had a few winners here. I hope it’s one of our customers because they all deserve it.

“They should come forward and reveal themselves so we can all share in the joy.”

A National Lottery spokesman said: “We’re delighted the winner of this amazing prize has now come forward and we hope they will enjoy their win.

“It would have been awful if the ticket-holder had missed out on this substantial amount of money. We would like to remind all National Lottery players to check their tickets every time they play.”
