Blackpool beauty Joanna Johnson has added another top crown to her collection.
The 22-year-old, from Norbreck, saw off tough competition from beauty queens from across the UK to scoop the prestigious title of World Supermodel UK 2015.
The hairdresser – who last year was crowned Miss Blackpool – is now preparing to head to South Africa for the trip of a lifetime, where she will compete in the grand international final of the World Supermodel pageant. The glittering UK final, which took place at the Park Hall Hotel, in Lancashire, consisted of three rounds: interview, swimwear, and evening wear.
Joanna dazzled the judges on stage, as well as in her interview with her northern charm, to walk away with the crown.
Joanna is the first beauty queen from Blackpool to win a national pageant in many years. She said: “I was absolutely over the moon, I can’t explain my feelings when my name got read out. It was so overwhelming and just so unexpected. It means the absolute world to me – to now be able to go to South Africa to represent the UK in the finals. I hope I can do everyone proud and make Blackpool proud, too.
“I will be training extra hard in the gym up until March and I need to buy a new dress and new bikini – which is always fun. I’m going to be just making sure I’ve got everything I need to do my best.”
Joanna says fund-raising for charity is one of the aspects of taking part in beauty pageants she enjoys the most.
And she says she has loved every moment of her reign as Miss Blackpool, since winning the title last August. She said: “I love doing all the charity events and the appearances – I’ve been on the local radio, judged the Miss G Casino beauty pageant, presented awards and done fashion shows.
“It’s so nice to be able to do things which promote a positive image of Blackpool.”
Holly Ikin, director of World Supermodel UK, said: “Joanna was a very deserving winner, she is clearly beautiful inside and out.
“Blackpool has been renowned for its love of pageants over the years and I am thrilled Joanna has been able to bring the crown back to her home town.
“I know she will be a great ambassador for the UK and Blackpool. Let’s hope this Blackpool beauty queen can bring home another crown.”
