Jake's UN business mission to Canada

Former youth parliament member Jake Adams, 18, who runs his own print business, took part in the Active Citizens’ Youth Innovation Summit in Ottawa.

Jake, a chairman of Blackpool Youth Voice and former St Mary’s High School pupil, was one of just three people from the UK chosen to take part.

The theme of the event was encouraging young people to think about businesses and social enterprise and Jake was there to offer his experiences of running his business, Creative Print, which he started aged 14 and his work in giving a voice to young people.

He said: “It was a brilliant opportunity to take part in this United Nations Association of Canada event.

“We had dinner with the British High Commissioner on the evening before the youth summit and there was chance to see the sights of Ottawa before returning to Manchester Airport.

“I would like to thank The British Youth Council for their support for this event. I was there with Luke Thornton and Jeremiah Emmanuel, who are both from London, and we shared our experiences to the young people in Canada.

“The UN Association fo Canada and the British Council had run a programme with 150 young people trying to encourage them to set up their own social enterprises.

“It was interesting to see their business models. It was a high profile event and everybody learned something.”
