On your marks, get set.... GO!
Entry is now open for the 2014 Race for Life and Blackpool women are being urged to join forces to show cancer who’s boss.
The women-only Cancer Research UK fundraising 5k will this year take place on Blackpool Promenade, on Wednesday, July 9.
The Race for Life is for all women, of all ages and all shapes and sizes, and the charity wants as many Fylde coast mums, sisters, aunts, daughters and grandmothers, as well as friends and colleagues, to sign up as possible.
While there is a serious reason behind the annual, popular event, it very much focuses on fun too.
Liz Booth, Cancer Research UK’s Blackpool events manager, said: “We’re calling on Blackpool’s mighty mums, gutsy grans, feisty friends and go-getting girls to join our formidable army and take on cancer at this year’s Race for Life.
“We know how committed Blackpool women can be.
“We want to harness that power to stop cancer in its tracks, by raising money for life-saving research.
“Race for Life is non-competitive. It’s not about being fit or fast.
“Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour, while chatting and having fun.
“Or they can choose to jog, run or even dance around the course.”
Last year, 2,600 women took part in Race for Life in Blackpool and raised a fantastic £121,000. Organisers are hoping for the same number, if not more, to join the ranks this time.
Money raised through Race for Life allows Cancer Research’s doctors, nurses and scientists to carry out more vital research, helping to save lives.
Cancer Research receives no Government funding for its work.
