Inquiry still ongoing into Viagra hotel

Neil Marshall caused a furore last month when he rechristened the former Vidella Hotel on Dickson Road.

Additional branding above the guesthouse also promised guests ‘we will keep you up all night’.

Councillors warned the name was inappropriate for a family resort.

Blackpool Council has now said it has made contact with Mr Marshall and is hoping to hold talks with him in the near future.

A spokesman said: “We have been in contact with the owner and he has agreed to meet with officers from the council.”

Pfizer, which makes Viagra, said it could not comment further at this stage about its investigation into the unofficial use of its trademark.

When the issue first arose, the company said it would be “taking appropriate action.”

It added that in the UK “advertising of prescription-only medicines to the public is strictly prohibited.”

Claremont councillor Lynn Williams was among people, who also included other B&B owners, who called for the signs to be removed.

She said: “This is just not acceptable or the kind of image we want to portray of hotels in a family resort.”

But Mr Marshall said the new name helped the business stand out from other hotels in the resort.

In 2014 the previous owners of the Hotel Vidella John Downer and Neil Williams featured on the Channel Five series The Hotel Inspector when the show’s host Alex Polizzi, herself a former hotelier, spent five weeks filming there.
