He left when they declined but later discovered a mobile phone had been taken.

Police are now appealing for help to trace the man pictured in the image following the incident on September 2.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “At around 3pm, a man approached a house under extensive renovation. He has gone through an insecure door and spoken to workers, offering to sell them a drill bit sharpener. They declined and he left.”

The image shows a man with short dark hair and wearing dark clothing with white trainers.

Anyone who recognises the man, or with information about the incident, should call police on 101, quoting log number 720 of September 2.
