A BLACKPOOL takeaway worker has been arrested after being caught working illegally in the UK.

Officers from the UK Border Agency carried out raids across Lancashire – including at Blackpool Fryer takeaway on Egerton Road in North Shore.

They found a 25-year-old Turkish man who had overstayed his visa and had lost his right to work in the UK.

Eddy Montgomery, operations director for the UK Border Agency in the North West, said: “We will not tolerate illegal working, which undercuts wages and can exploit vulnerable workers. The UK Border Agency is also targeting employers. We are happy to work with businesses and advise what checks need to be carried out on staff, but those who do break the law should know that they will face heavy fines.”

Raids were also carried out in Preston and three other men were arrested for working illegally.

The men remain in immigration detention awaiting removal from the UK while the premises will be served with civil penalty notices for employing suspected illegal workers.
