Ill-health forces Lytham councillor to retire

A Lytham councillor has stepped down with immediate effect because of health problems.

Len Davies a retired transport manager, had represented Clifton ward since 2011 and topped the poll in the ward with 1,385 votes as he was re-elected at last May’s local elections.

No date has yet been set for a by-election but a notice of vacancy has been posted by Fylde Council.

Len said ongoing knee problems were behind his decision to step down.

“The deterioration in my health means I feel I am unable to carry out my duties and responsibilities in an effective manner,” he said.

“While it’s not a serious condition, I am mindful that I will not be able to match the effort I have put in over the last few years.

“It has been a great honour and privilege to have represented and served the people in Clifton ward and to have made many friends and been able to help so many of them.”
