A Blackpool housing association has celebrated a major milestone.

The Mayor of Blackpool, Coun Valerie Haynes, helped residents and staff of Douglas Leatham House, one of Great Places Housing Group’s older person schemes, celebrate 25 years of being open.

Around 50 people were at the event including the fire service, gas servicing company Proline, Great Places staff, and family and friends of the residents.

The scheme provides 42 flats for older people in the community.

Guests were treated to entertainment from vocalist Nico and a local choir.

Refreshments and a raffle were also part of the celebrations, with £200 being raised for Douglas Leatham’s Residents’ Association and Donna’s Dream House, which provides holiday experiences for children and teenagers with terminal or life-threatening illnesses.

The celebration was sponsored by Great Places Housing Group and one of its contractors Proline Mec.

Katherine Michaels, community development co-ordinator at Great Places, said: “The committee worked tirelessly to unsure the day was a success. It was enjoyed by everyone who attended.”
