The entrance, directly opposite the new car park at the site, which opened earlier this year, boasts a Costa
coffee shop, a Marks and Spencer and a W H Smith.

It will also be the home to a pharmacy, and a new reception desk when work is complete.

But the doors are now open, and offer an open seating area, lifts, stairs and escalators which lead into the main corridor. And for anyone left confused by the new layout, the hospital’s volunteer navigators are on hand to show them around.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust chairman, Ian Johnson, said: “It is a wonderful area that will make a huge difference to our patients, visitors and staff.

“The entrance hall is the final stage of a scheme to provide improved access to the hospital and a multi-storey car park and has cost a total of £16.5m. The capital has been borrowed from the Department of Health.”
