Snap happy hospital staff have used their artistic – rather than medical – eyes to create a fundraising masterpiece.
Workers at Blackpool Victoria have provided the pictures for the Fylde health trust’s first ever calendar which has been produced to earn money for the Blue Skies Hospitals Fund.
The pictures – which feature several shots of Blackpool – were chosen from more than 50 submitted into a photo competition organised by the staff’s social club.
Sue Grimshaw, chairman of the Staff Social Committee, said the competition proved extremely popular.
She said: “We asked staff to submit pictures which they thought would represent a season and the standard was extremely high. The end result is a fantastic calendar which we hope will raise money for the Trust’s charity.”
The Blue Skies fund is a registered charity which aims to improve patient care by supporting areas that are not covered by central NHS funds.
One of the staff members to have their photograph included was personal assistant Jane Eyre whose picture of a squirrel taken in Stanley Park was chosen for the month of May.
She said: “I first became interested in photography at a course run by Ruth Shaw for trust staff that was run on site after work.
“It was a great course and helped inspire me to take pictures whenever I can.
“I look at things differently and love walking round Stanley Park now because every time I go there I see something that makes for a good photograph.
“The picture of the squirrel is one of my favourites and I’m really proud to be in the calendar.’’
Biochemist Andrew Brown saw his picture of icicles hanging from the branches of a tree chosen for the December.
He said: “I thought the idea of getting staff to submit pictures for a calendar was excellent and it has certainly been a topic of conversation.’’
