Honour guard to say farewell to scout leader

Scouting friends provided a guard of honour at Lytham Crematorium to say goodbye to a respected leader.

Pat Edwards began her Scouting journey as Beaver Scout Leader on June 12,1989, with the 11th Blackpool Scout Group (St Kentigern’s Parish Church, Newton Drive).

In 1996, Pat was appointed assistant district commissioner responsible for Beaver Scouts in Blackpool.

Pat also held the positions of district training advisor, nights away assessor and active support member.

Blackpool District Scouts’ Phillip Mather said: “Pat’s organisational skills were legendary, she loved being hands on, and she loved to make beautiful hand-crafted cards for all her friends.”

Pat was awarded by the Chief Scout the Award of Merit in 2008, for outstanding Services to Scouting, followed in April 2014 by the award of The Silver Acorn, for distinguished services.  

Phillip added: “Pat’s constant contribution and dedication to Scouting in Blackpool was outstanding, and her memory will always live on by her last request that donations from her funeral go towards her beloved Beaver Scout Section.”
