The longest running mayoral engagement in Fylde clocked up another year, when ace bowler Richard Hoyles won the area’s Mayor’s Trophy.

The trophy is battled over by members of 17 bowling clubs in the area, and was first competed for in 1925.

The trophy has traditionally been present by the Mayor every year, and this year’s victor was Richard.

Coun Kevin Eastham, Fylde Mayor, presented the trophy and said: “The standard of bowling in Fylde is very good, and I’m pleased to see so many competitors.

“The tournament remains the most popular in the area, and I’m proud to be associated with it.

“It was a pleasure to meet the bowlers. They take it very seriously, while also meeting friends and having a good chat.

“I’m sure the trophy will be fought over for many years to come.”
