BAR owners are going hi-tech to catch out underage drinkers and peddlers of fake ID.
Convincingly realistic bogus driving licences – such as the one pictured right – are being used at bars across Blackpool on a nightly basis.
Now pub bosses – whose businesses are at risk if they are caught selling booze to children – are stepping up the game and using technology of their own to stop the trade.
Internet sites brazenly allow young people to buy fake ID cards for £20.
One such site boasts its ultra-realistic cards “have been created by graphic designers with experience in the identification and security industry”.
Henry Baldwin, a manager with Northern Security, said the threat of underage drinkers was the “biggest problem” Blackpool door staff faced.
He estimated security at just one resort venue could turn away at least 100 underage drinkers on a peak Friday or Saturday night.
Mr Baldwin said: “Young people are very ingenious with their IDs – some of them are flawless. The better we get, the better they get. It’s an on-going battle.
“We know the reality of the situation with these websites. They should be closed down.
