Heritage status for town centre

Rare parts of a Fylde town believed to be more than 150-years-old have been officially listed for their special historic interest.

The pebbled pavements in Bath Street and Queen Street in Lytham have now been Grade-II listed by members of the Lytham St Annes Civic Society.

The move will help to protect the paving, which was laid in the mid 19th century.

Paul Drinnan, Fylde Council regeneration manager, said: “Future generations will be very appreciative that Lytham St Annes Civic Society applied and succeeded in having these pavements listed.

“They really are quite rare, even in seaside towns, although you see a similar surface in some parts of Spain.”

Marion Coupe, of the civic society, added: ““We are delighted to have news of another successful listing application sent in by the Lytham St Annes Civic Society.”
