There is a chance to become a wildlife explorer when a 24 hour nature survey is staged at Wyre Estuary Country Park, in Stanah, this Friday and Saturday.

The BioBlitz is being coordinated by the River Wyre Catchment Partnership, Wyre Council, the British Society for Biology, and local groups.

People can join Wyre Council’s ranger team and identify as many different species of birds, bugs, plants and beasties as possible.

As with any scientific expedition, everything found will be documented and passed on to local and national wildlife databases.

The event will be officially opened at noon on Friday by folk singer and comedian Mike Harding, with school activities afterwards.

Friday’s activities include a salt marsh survey, an evening bird walk, and a bat walk, while there will also be a marquee up on Saturday and many other events.

For details and to book some activities, visit countryside@wyre.gov.uk or call 07976 650803.
