Fylde coast families are being asked to help others this festive season, by adding a little extra to their food shopping.
Lancashire Women’s Centres are appealing for help for a new campaign at the Blackpool women’s centre, on Church Street.
The centre – which supports women in the area with issues such as parenting, debt, employment, abuse, health, offending and accommodation – is gathering much-needed food supplies, to support families in need who would be going hungry this Christmas.
It aims to put together a “make a meal” package for families, including a recipe card to help recipients create nutritious meals for themselves.
The centre is now in the last couple of weeks of collecting items – but needs the public’s help to collect more.
Adlele Helm, community fundraiser at Lancashire Women’s Centre, said: “Why is it that in 2016 families in the north west are going hungry?
“But everyone can help us fight it by helping us raise much-needed food supplies to support families in need.
“We are providing a make a meal package, which will include recipe cards to help the families make meals.
“We want to put a little sparkle back into people’s lives this Christmas.
“We are asking for donations of tinned and store cupboard food, so we can make food parcels.
“All people need to do is place donated items in the festive giving trolley at our Blackpool centre and we will make sure they go to people in need.”
Among the items which can be donated are tinned meat – for example chicken, ham, steak, mince or fish, tinned vegetables, tinned potatoes, soup and baked beans, tinned fruit, pasta, gravy, and rice.
Drop items off to the Women’s Centre, 126 Church Street, Blackpool.
