If you went outside yesterday you would be forgiven for thinking it was more like the end of Autumn with temperatures barely above 13 degrees celsius, high winds, lashing rain and low cloud.

Temperatures are set to rise to up to 24 degrees early next week in Blackpool - while London will see highs of 27 degrees.

With that in mind, anyone working outside is being urged to cover up with sunscreen to lower the chances of getting skin cancer.

Coun Amy Cross, Cabinet Member for Reducing Health Inequalities, said: “Everyone is at risk of sun damage and skin cancer but outdoor workers are at a higher risk as they spend more time exposed to UV radiation.

People need to be aware of the dangers of UV radiation at work and how to protect their skin even on cool, cloudy days as up to 80 per cent of UVA rays can pass through clouds and cause significant skin damage.

“Skin cancer is an avoidable disease, which is why we ensure that our staff are protected against many of the risks of solar radiation.”
