Fylde coast residents are being urged to think ahead as a survey reveals the average cost of a funeral has risen by four per cent.

Age UK Fylde said the average cost of a ‘basic’ funeral is now £3,702 – a rise of £140 in one year, according to new research from Royal London’s National Funeral Cost Index 2015.

The survey also found that more than one in 10 people struggle with funeral expenses, with the average debt reaching £1,318.

Susan Macintyre, Age UK Lancashire - Fylde, said: “Of course, it’s a sensitive issue, but discussing wishes with family and considering well in advance the practical arrangements for a funeral and how it should be paid for can save a lot of worry at a deeply upsetting time.”
