A new senior manager has been appointed to oversee a council’s public health work.
Dr Sakthi Karunanithi, a qualified doctor with more than 13 years experience, will today take up the Lancashire County Council role for the first time.
The job will see Dr Karunanithi develop public health policy, commissioning services to deal with specific health issues such as smoking and alcohol abuse, and ensuring the people of Lancashire have access to good quality health care.
He said: “It’s a privilege to serve the people of Lancashire.
“I am looking forward to developing Lancashire as the healthiest place it can be in which to be born, live, work and retire.”
