DOZENS of patients have had to be recalled back to Blackpool Victoria Hospital after a delay in picking up a patient’s breast cancer.
Following an investigation, 472 ultrasound scans were reviewed and 24 patients - where potential concerns were raised - were contacted by the breast care team and invited back for reassessment.
It was found a radiologist had failed to follow national guidance when reviewing the first patient’s ultrasound scan.
The radiologist no longer works at the trust and the matter has been referred to the General Medical Council.
A helpline has been set up for families who may have been affected (01253) 306650.
