Simon the Scientist will be one of the mascot stars of the Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10K when he joins his company team in the event.
Entries for the May 10 fun run from Blackpool’s Hilton Hotel have already topped the 450 mark.
And 17 of the fundraisers are coming from AGC Chemicals in Thornton.
The company, which manufactures high-performance plastics, has pledged its support in memory of former colleague Ken Adams (pictured inset).
Marketing co-ordinator Zuzanna Pietryja, 28, said: “A few staff have taken part in the fun run over the years but this year we wanted to do something special. Ken passed away last November, just a day before he was due to go in to Trinity Hospice, so we decided raise money for them in his memory.
“We have put together a team of 17 staff members and are all very, very excited.
“Everyone is preparing hard. We are all discussing our outfits and are having some T-shirts specially printed.
“Our mascot, Simon the Scientist, is particularly looking forward to the day, providing it’s not too hot!”
The firm has set up a fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/AGC-chemicals-europe and is hoping to raise £1,000 for Trinity.
