Pensioners and vulnerable people are being urged to book a flu vaccination with their GP.

The campaign is aimed at over 65s, children aged two, three and four, under 65s with long term health conditions and pregnant women.

Flu is a highly contagious illness that spreads rapidly through the coughs and sneezes of people who are carrying the virus. It can cause serious complications for at risk groups, such as the elderly, and expectant mothers

Dr Angela Manning, Deputy Medical Director (Lancashire) at NHS England, said: “The best way to improve the prevention and management of flu is to increase the uptake of vaccination, especially among those at risk.”
