Dedicated South Shore GP Dr Aruna Singh retires after decades of service to the NHS

Aruna Singh has retired after 30 years as a GP

Dr Aruna Singh was a partner at Harrowside Medical Centre from 1992 until just last week, when she stepped away.

Thanking her patients, she said: “I have shared their lives and happiness and laughed with them, and shared their sorrows and cried with them.

“It has been a privilege and honour to serve the South Shore community.”

Dr Singh initially trained in Indian capital New Dehli in 1977, before moving to Britain three years later. She practised for four years at a junior doctor in Colchester, Essex, before moving to Blackpool and working at the Victoria Hospital.

Following GP training at Cleveleys Health Centre, she worked in Clare Street, South Shore, and at Lytham Road Health Centre, before moving to Harrowside.

Her son, Dr Pipin Singh, a GP at the Village Green Surgery in Wallsend, said: “Her passion and drive to provide high quality care was evident to me from an early age. Her level of care, respect, and empathy for her patients has always been outstanding and she has always been a fantastic role model.”

In November, Harrowside merged with Stonyhill Medical Practice, due to the national GP shortage, before Dr Singh’s retirement on Friday.

Roy Fisher, chairman of Blackpool Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Dr Singh has been a valued member of the GP workforce and has been a much-loved GP. We wish her all the best for her greatly deserved retirement and share our thanks for her dedication.”
