Children in hospital over the Christmas period will be entertained by a selection of films thanks to a group of networking women.
The Pink Link Ladies raised money to buy new DVDs, suitable for all ages, for the Children’s Ward at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
It’s the fourth year the group has donated the gifts, which were accepted by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s charity, Blue Skies Hospitals Fund.
The money was raised by its annual network raffle and Christmas party, where donated items were auctioned.
Director of Pink Link Ladies, Coral Horn, who lives in Blackpool, said: “We’ve brought in some new DVDs for the children to enjoy.
“We raised £1,370 in total, which has been split between Blackpool Victoria Hospital, Brian House, Derian House Children’s Hospice, Lagan’s Foundation, Blackpool Food Bank and a homeless charity in Lancaster.
“I’m just overwhelmed with the generosity of people donating prizes to us to raffle off and to our members for bidding on items on the night. The support is fantastic and I think because it’s a women’s network, and the money is going to children, they are particularly generous.”
Coral was joined in handing over the DVDs by Blackpool Football Club mascot Bloomfield Bear and Kristen Durose, Managing Director of Red Star Wealth Management, which sponsors Bloomfield, to hand out chocolate reindeers to children on the ward.
Coral added: “I’d like to say a special thank you to Kristen from Red Star who organised to bring along Bloomfield Bear.”
Play Worker, Gemma Bentley, said: “On behalf of the Children’s Wards I’d like to say a big thank you to the Pink Link Ladies for donating theses DVDs. We’re really grateful.”
“They are brand new titles and the kids will have a great time watching them. It was also fun to have Bloomfield Bear come along and the children loved seeing him and were taking photos, as well as some of the parents.”
