Officers say they have arrested a 21-year-old man they believe was the driver, but are still searching for the vehicle, a Ford C Max.

The incident happened at around 9pm last night when a pedestrian crossing Talbot Road at the junction with Devonshire Road was hit by a car, which then made off from the area.

The pedestrian, a local man, suffered a head injury, along with a broken foot and is in a stable condition at Royal Preston Hospital.

A man believed to be the driver was arrested a short time later on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and driving whilst unfit through drink and/or drugs. He remains in police custody at this time.

The car involved is outstanding and police are asking anyone who knows anything about it to get in touch.

Sgt Martin Wilcock from Lancashire’s Tactical Operations said: “It’s really important we trace the vehicle that hit the man as it could hold vital evidence.
