Women from the Fylde coast are being invited to join the bun and gun fun later this month when an exclusive club visits the area.

The Shotgun And Chelsea Bun Club is the largest organisation of its kind and will be coming to Blackpool Sporting Clays, based in Greenhalgh, on Sunday, April 26.

The event will run between 10am and 2pm and will include an introduction to clay-shooting, followed by cake-eating – purely for women. It will cater for every level, from beginners right up more experienced shooters.

Victoria Knowles-Lacks, the club founder, said: “We are looking forward to coming to Blackpool Sporting Clays – it’s going to be a great day.

“It will be our first visit this year to this ground, which is absolutely beautiful.

“We are all about taking the pressure off when it comes to clay-shooting, we’re all girls together – we use low-recoil guns, so no need to worry about kick, the instructors are fantastic and we have rosettes for the highest scoring ladies and the best bakers.”

Women taking part in the sessions are split into small groups, based on ability and then introduced to their team mates, before fully-qualified instructors run through the basics of safety and shooting.

The women shoot 30 clays, under instruction and shoot a number of different clay targets, before all reconvening to the clubhouse – where tea and cake is served on beautiful china.

The idea behind the club is to bring women together, who would not normally try shooting, for a social day out and to make shooting fun, accessible and affordable.

No experience is needed and all equipment – cartridges, clays, gun hire, protective equipment – and insurance is included in the price.

Those good in the kitchen are encouraged to bring along a cake to show off their baking skills.

The day costs £39.50 for club members and £49.50 for non-members.
