Steve is appearing in his 13th season for the theatre’s pantomime, as Muddles in Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, and has appeared in countless other variety nights in that time.

He joins the likes of Ken Dodd, Bernard Cribbibs, Stephen Tompkinson and Prunella Scales as a friends’ patron.

The presentation was made after yesterday’s matinee performance, with Steve’s parents as surprise guests in the audience.

Theatre marketing manager Andrew Howard put his name forward to the group, which agreed the honour with ease.

Andrew said: “He has done more performances on our stage than almost anyone, I would imagine.

“He joins an elite group of people who have done or mean a lot to the theatre for their commitment on an off stage. Steve genuinely and passionately loves the Grand and the crowds love him back.”

Vice chairman of the Friends Of The Grand John Grady said: “We are delighted and honoured that Steve will become a patron of our organisation.

“Steve’s devotion to The Friends, the organisation and the theatre itself made him the perfect choice.”
