It is believed an argument between members of a group became heated, prompting the attack.

Det Sgt Steve Harry, of Blackpool CID, said it is thought the victim knew her attacker.

A woman who was arrested in connection with the incident has been bailed by police pending further inquiries.

Det Sgt Harry added: “There was a group of six or seven people, all known to each other and under the influence of drink, in the street.

“Following an altercation, the offender is alleged to have dragged the victim to the ground by her hair before forcibly pulling a gold chain from around her neck and running off.”

He said it is possible there were other people in the area at the time who witnessed the robbery.

He said they would have seen a group of men and women arguing in the street.

Detectives are also keen to trace the gold chain that was reported stolen in the robbery.
