A football club has slammed “mindless idiots” who have twice glued an equipment container shut.

The vandals have caused Layton Juniors Football Club’s games and training session to be called off because they’ve been unable to get goal nets and corner flags on to the pitch at Moor Park, Bispham.

However, Juniors’ general secretary, Amanda Borrino says she does not believe the vandalism is being undertaken as a result of a “vendetta” by a rival club.

Amanda said: “They’re mindless idiots and they think it’s a joke.

“They think it’s funny to see somebody struggling to try to get in the container.

“I would hope it wouldn’t be another football club with a vendetta against us.

“As far as I know we don’t have any vendettas against the club.”

The latest glue prank happened the night before the club’s Saturday training session, which had to be cancelled as a result.

The previous vandalism took place on Saturday September 28, which caused one of the club’s Sunday games to be cancelled, another to be held without corner flags on the pitch, and a third to be moved to Spirit of Youth FC’s home ground at Common Edge in Marton.

Amanda added: “We want to see thank you to Spirit of Youth for helping us out.

“The glue is setting hard on the lock so we’re having to replace it.

“Why would anyone want to disrupt junior football from happening?

“They’re not trying to break in but they’re trying to sabotage football.

“It is an isolated area when there’s not going on so it’s not like there’s any neighbours nearby who would see anything either.”

The club says it has yet to report the vandalism to police, but will do so should it happen again.
